Academic Research Council members visit NUS

All 11 members of the Singapore Ministry of Education's (MOE) Academic Research Council (ARC) were at NUS on 5 January 2011. They visited and held meetings at two Research Centres of Excellence at NUS - the Centre for Quantum Technologies and the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore (CSI).

Established in 2006 by MOE to advise on Singapore's strategic thrusts for academic research and optimal investment of its Academic Research Fund, the ARC comprises renowned academics, scientists and research administrators. They include:

  • Dr Robert Brown, President, Boston University, and Chairman of ARC
  • Prof Nicholas P Bigelow, Lee A DuBridge Professor of Physics and Professor of Optics, University of Rochester
  • Prof Randal Bryant, Dean, School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University
  • Dr Jean-Lou Chameau, President, California Institute of Technology
  • Prof Mogens Flensted-Jensen, Professor, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Copenhagen
  • Dr Alice Gast, President, Lehigh University
  • Prof Philip Khoury, Assoc Provost and Ford International Professor of History, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • Prof Sir George Radda, Chairman of the Singapore Bioimaging Consortium and Biomedical Research Council, Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR); and Emeritus Professor of Molecular Cardiology, University of Oxford
  • Dr Judith Swain, Executive Director, Singapore Institute for Clinical Sciences, A*STAR; and Adjunct Professor of Medicine, University of California, San Diego
  • Prof Axel Ullrich, Director, Department of Molecular Biology, Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry; and Research Director, Singapore Oncogenome Laboratory, Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, A*STAR
