Austrian Federal Minister for Science and Research visits NUS

WARMLY WELCOMED: The Austrian delegation with senior administrators from NUS

Federal Minister for Science and Research of the Republic of Austria Dr Beatrix Karl and a delegation of distinguished leaders from Austria visited NUS on 22 February 2011.

Among the members of the delegation were Federal Ministry for Science and Research's Director General for Scientific Research and International Relations Ms Barbara Weitgruber, Cabinet member at the Federal Ministry for Science and Research Dr Sabine Neyer, Universities Austria President Prof Dl Dr Hans Sünkel, and CEO of OeAD GmbH, the Austrian agency for international mobility and cooperation in education, science and research, Prof Hubert Dürrstein.

During the visit, Dr Karl met with NUS President Prof Tan Chorh Chuan, Deputy President (Research and Technology) Prof Barry Halliwell, Vice President (University and Global Relations) Prof Lily Kong, Vice Provost (Student Life) Prof Tan Tai Yong, Vice Provost (Academic Personnel) Prof Lai Choy Heng, and NUS School of Computing's Vice Dean (Research) Prof Tan Kian Lee. The Austrian guests were given an overview of the University and learnt about its research strategies and development.

Dr Karl is part of the delegation accompanying President of the Republic of Austria Dr Heinz Fischer in his State Visit to Singapore (from 20 to 22 February 2011) - the first State Visit from Austria which Singapore hosted. In Singapore, Dr Heinz met with Singapore President S R Nathan and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
