NUS hosts inaugural APRU Provosts Forum

INAUGURAL PROVOSTS FORUM: Fruitful workshops and dialogue sessions involving 40 representatives from 26 universities

NUS hosted the inaugural Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Provosts Forum from 26 to 27 April 2011, bringing together 40 representatives from 26 universities.

Delivering the welcome speech, NUS Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and Provost Prof Tan Eng Chye said: "This occasion is a very significant one as it marks APRU's first formal gathering of provosts since its inception in 1997.The APRU Provosts Forum was conceived to allow provosts to leverage on the alliance network, establish ties and engage fellow Provosts in mutually beneficial dialogues and exchanges on critical trends and issues on academia."

Opening the Forum, Chairman and Lead Counsellor of LinHart Group Mr Tsun-yan Hsieh gave a corporate perspective of the qualities that distinguish the perfect college graduate of the near future.

The two-day event saw the participants discussing issues identified by an international programme committee formed with senior administrators from the following renowned universities - the Australian National University, University of British Columbia, University of Tokyo, Peking University, University of California, Los Angeles and NUS. Discussions centred on the topics of faculty recruitment and retention, interdisciplinary research and the academic quality assurance for study abroad programmes.
