NUS Sportswoman of the Year wins top honour in national sports awards

21 April 2011

SINGAPORE'S SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR: Ms Jasmine Ser

The outstanding performance of NUS Business School student Ms Jasmine Ser, who won two gold and two silver medals in Air Rifle at last year's Commonwealth Games, was phenomenal for Singapore. Noting her achievements, she was a clear choice among the Singapore Sports Awards Selection Committee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and President of the Singapore National Olympic Council Mr Teo Chee Hean, for the "Sportswoman of the Year" title, despite strong competition from other high achievers in the local sporting scene.

Her win was announced on 19 April 2011. In Germany then for training, Jasmine was pleasantly surprised by the news. In response to media questions, she expressed her gratitude for the affirmation and gave credit to the other contenders whom she felt were equally deserving of the award.

Incidentally, the other top award, the Sportsman of the Year also went to a fellow sharp shooter Mr Gai Bin.
