The Mount Elizabeth-Gleneagles Scholarship is expected to benefit up to 16 students each year from Academic Year 2013/14. Valued at S$10,000 each, the bond-free scholarships will cover about half of the students' tuition fees.
Dr Tan See Leng, Group Chief Officer and Managing Director of Parkway Pantai Ltd, said: "We believe in nurturing the next generation of medical leaders who will play a critical role in shaping the future of medicine for Singapore. This Scholarship will offer students, who are committed and driven to succeed in this profession but may be constrained financially, a boost to their medical education journey."
Assoc Prof Yeoh Khay Guan, Dean of NUS YLLSoM, said that for students from a financially needy background, the School offers scholarships and bursaries so that no student is denied a medical education because of monetary difficulties. "We are very grateful that Parkway Pantai Ltd shares this vision with us and has come forward to support our students with this generous gift."
NUS President Prof Tan Chorh Chuan added: "The Scholarship will enable generations of deserving students to enjoy a transformative educational experience at NUS, and go on to make a real difference to patients, our community and society."
