Four doctors honoured at the National Medical Excellence Awards 2009

Three doctors from the National University Health System (NUHS) and one from Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore, have done very well at the National Medical Excellence Awards 2009, clinching most of the honours granted by the Singapore Ministry of Health. Graced by Minister for Health Mr Khaw Boon Wan, the award ceremony was held on 22 July 2009.

On the recipients, Mr Khaw said "They epitomise the very best clinical, scientific and academic talent that Singapore hopes to see more and more of. Through years of unwavering commitment, they have helped build up core capabilities in their respective specialities."

The National Outstanding Clinician Scientist Award went to Prof Michael Chee Wei Liang of Duke-NUS. He received the accolade for his remarkable contributions to clinical and translational research in neuroscience.

NUHS Deputy Chief Executive Prof John Wong Eu Li received the National Outstanding Clinician Award. He was honoured for his outstanding contributions to clinical work through advances in the safety and quality of patient care. The award also recognised Prof Wong as a master clinician who has supported and facilitated research, and introduced novel/effective treatment in his clinical practice.

Profs Chew Chong Lin and Low Poh Sim, both from NUHS, were among the three recipients to receive the National Outstanding Clinician Mentor Award for their mentorship of young clinicians and clinician scientists in Dentistry and Paediatric Neurology, respectively.
