Amidst the lush Town Green at University Town (UTown), close to 1,700 young and old alumni gathered with ex-schoolmates and participated in an array of activities at this year's Alumni Day@Kent Ridge on 28 July. Gracing the occasion were Guest-of-Honour NUS Chairman Mr Wong Ngit Liong, board members and the University's senior administrators.

First organised in 1990, Alumni Day was held for the first time at UTown. The programme included a "Concert Under the Stars" in collaboration with the Timbre Group, featuring bands such as KR Rockers, Baracuda Batucada, Raw Earth, the Popbottles and Goodfellas. While some alumni decided to spread their picnic mats and enjoy the musical performances at Town Green, others preferred to visit the bazaar stalls and activity booths where they could participate in activities such as face painting, glitter tattoo and balloon sculpture together with their children.

The participants could also choose to go on a guided tour of UTown. Opened about a year ago, UTown is a unique educational hub equipped with residential spaces, teaching facilities and study clusters integrating living and learning. Miss Chua Chin Min, who graduated with an engineering degree in 2008, participated with her friends in the walking tour to see how UTown is like.

Another Alumni Day event was held in early July at the NUS Bukit Timah campus. The event saw a record 900 alumni and guests. Dr Sim Wee Kiat of the Class of 1964, who attended the alumni gatherings on the two campuses, said that he enjoys going to such events as the University is "his connection, his alma mater".
