NUS medical science educator honoured

ON BOARD: Prof Matthew Gwee is the first from Asia to be elected to IAMSE’s Board of Directors.

Professorial Fellow Matthew Gwee, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (YLLSoM), NUS, has been elected to the International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) Board of Directors – in recognition of his international standing as a medical science educator.

The first Asian to be on the Board of IAMSE, Prof Gwee’s major interest is Best Evidence Medical Education aimed at promoting best teaching practices informed by current evidence derived from educational research. He is actively involved in promoting excellence and professionalism in medical education through faculty development programmes.

Prof Gwee will interact more closely with leading medical science educators in the US as well as around the world. Besides mutual sharing and learning, the interactions will also provide greater opportunities for him to further enhance and promote YLLSoM’s mission of establishing itself as a centre of excellence in medical education.

Founded in 1997, IAMSE is based on the guiding principle that all who teach the sciences fundamental to medical practice should have access to the most current information and skills needed to excel as educators. It provides opportunities to enhance excellence and innovations in teaching, student and programme assessment, computer technology, human simulation, learner-centred education and in many other areas.
