Rag Day aims to thank the public for their generous donations during the NUSSU Flag Day held on 4 August this year. More than 6,000 NUS freshmen and seniors raised a total of $443,375.35 for 20 beneficiaries under the umbrella of the Community Chest. Through the annual Rag & Flag Day, NUS has raised more than $2 million in the past nine years. Recognising NUS' efforts, the University has been receiving the Community Chest Special Events Gold or Platinum Awards every year since 2003.
Beneficiary groups which include the Singapore Cheshire Home Day Care Centre, Bukit Ho Swee Family Service Centre and the Metta School performed at the event.
"NUSSU Rag and Flag is an event that is entirely student-driven. It is a long-standing tradition that we, as members of the NUS community, can definitely be proud of," said NUSSU President Mr Kuan Yee Han.
