Endowed gift of $300,000 to fund the Wu Jieh Yee Memorial Scholarship for business undergraduates
14 Sep 2009
In honour and remembrance of her parents, the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Wu Jieh Yee made an endowed gift of $300,000 to support the Mr & Mrs Wu Jieh Yee Memorial Scholarship at NUS Business School. She has also made another expendable gift of $19,420 to kick-start the scholarship from September 2009. Both gifts will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Singapore government.
The gifts will support up to four undergraduate scholarships annually to cover the students' annual tuition fee throughout their course of studies at the School.
The donor said: "Both my parents lived long and productive lives and they had great faith in the benefits of a good education. My father was a banker but he came from a very humble family and he always remembered the less fortunate in society. When it came to doing something to remember them by, I felt that supporting a scholarship in a field close to my father's heart would be appropriate. I hope this scholarship will help deserving students build a strong foundation for their future careers, and they, in turn, will be encouraged to help those less fortunate in society, just as how they have benefited from the scholarship."
