Celebrating the completion of the structure of University Town's Graduate Residence, a topping-out ceremony was held on 17 September 2010.

NUS Board of Trustees member Mr Edward D'Silva, who is also Senior Advisor, SAA Architects Pte Ltd, said that the ceremony marked the beginning of an exciting and new journey in our approach to tertiary education.

He noted: "NUS has recognised the shift of student learning from large classes to more intimate and interactive learning environment and has therefore introduced University Town. Students who are looking for a more holistic campus life will be able to get the experience in the University Town."

From August next year, the Graduate Residence will house up to 1,700 residents and provide units for single and married graduate students. It will also be equipped with seminar rooms and student lounges.

The design of the complex emphasises open common areas, and the architecture fosters a sense of community and cross-disciplinary discussion. Resident Advisors will also be housed in the same complex as the graduate residents.
