05 September 2011

NUS has advanced three spots – from the 31st position last year to the current 28th placing – in the latest QS World University Rankings® 2011/12 which identifies the world’s top 300 universities.

NUS President Prof Tan Chorh Chuan said: “We are delighted that NUS has been consistently placed amongst the leading universities in the world. This year’s placing reflects a strong recognition from global employers and academia of the world-class quality of NUS’ education and research. We will continue to build on our strengths in education and research, and create distinctive value for our students, graduates and Singapore.”

The 2011 QS World University Rankings® are based on six indicators – academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, student-faculty ratio, international faculty and international students. The results are obtained from surveys done with over 33,000 academics and 16,000 employers, the largest pool of respondents to-date for the rankings

NUS also clinched the 3rd spot in the 2011 QS Asian University Rankings released in May 2011, and was ranked 1st in Asia for employer reputation and 2nd in Asia for academic reputation, international faculty and international students.

In the 2011 QS World University Rankings® by Subject, NUS emerged 1st among Asian universities in a wide range of subjects – Chemical Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering, Computer Science and Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing, Medicine, Metallurgy and Materials, Mathematics, English Language and Literature, Modern Languages, Philosophy, Geography and Area Studies, Accounting and Finance, Economics and Econometrics, Law, Sociology, and Statistics and Operational Research. Globally, the University was also listed amongst the world's top 30 universities across all these disciplines.
