Russia's First Deputy Prime Minister visits NUS

His Excellency Igor Shuvalov, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, together with his delegation, called on NUS on 24 September. The visitors were provided insights into the University's medical education and the National University Hospital's healthcare system.

Among the members of the Russian delegation were Ms Veronika Skvortsova, Minister of Health; Mr Ivan Blagodyr, Deputy Minister of Far East Development; and Mr Igor Remorenko, Deputy Minister of Education and Science.

During the visit, Mr Shuvalov met with the University's senior administrators - Professor Tan Chorh Chuan, NUS President and National University Health System (NUHS) Chairman; Professor Barry Halliwell, NUS Deputy President (Research & Technology); Associate Professor Benjamin Ong, NUS Senior Vice President (Health Affairs) and NUHS Chief Executive; and Associate Professor Yeoh Khay Guan, Dean of the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

The guests later toured the Advanced Surgery Training Centre, the Coronary Care Unit and the National University Heart Centre.

Mr Shuvalov is in Singapore for the third session of the High-Level Russia-Singapore Inter-Governmental Commission (IGC). He is also attending the Ministerial Dialogue Session at the Seventh Russia-Singapore Business Forum held in conjunction with the IGC.

A high-level dialogue, the IGC seeks to explore and promote cooperation between the two countries in areas such as trade, health and education. The commission is co-chaired by Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
