About Knowledge EnterpriseTowards a Global Knowledge Enterprise This is the long-awaited inaugural issue of Knowledge Enterprise (KE), successor to Campus News. The new name and look for the corporate newsletter reflect NUS' evolution from a primarily teaching university to a vibrant knowledge enterprise. NUS is at an exciting phase of growth as a dynamic hub for creating, applying and imparting knowledge. KE seeks to capture the exciting developments that are transforming NUS, helping it to flourish as the intellectual and entrepreneurial pulse of Singapore. Thanks go to Eugene Tan of the Political Science Department for giving us the name in the newsletter name contest conducted earlier. The masthead design shows the nexus between 'knowledge' and 'enterprise' through its common 'e', symbolising the synergy between the two in the knowledge-based global economy. The larger-than-life 'e' speaks of the exhilaration of pushing the boundaries of knowledge. The 'e' also portrays information technology as a key enabler at NUS in its role as a knowledge enterprise. With this inaugural issue, we are also launching a complementary online edition at http://newshub.nus.edu.sg. With all that is happening at NUS, the print edition, even though it will be produced monthly from this issue onwards, will be able to cover only a portion of the entire spectrum of events and achievements. The online edition will carry additional news items as well as dynamic updates. In short, http://newshub.nus.edu.sg is a web site to bookmark if you want to know the latest and best at NUS. We have called this inaugural issue the Freshmen Special Issue and included articles that would be of interest and help to students. It is specially dedicated to our first year students as our way of welcoming them to NUS. Beyond just the incoming students, though, we want to reach out to all students at NUS, a very vital sector of the NUS community, with a more contemporary look and feel to the newsletter. We hope you will enjoy Knowledge Enterprise. Your feedback and contributions are most welcome so that our newsletter will become an essential read for all at NUS and beyond.
